The Colquhouns where based in Dunbartonshire in Scotland. It is reported that the MacGregor's of Scotland came down to the low country at the time and terrorised the community and territory of the Colquhouns.

During this time Sir Humphry Colquhoun gathered men and the gentlemen of the local area and attacked the invaders. This battle was bloody and carried on through the evening and night. Round about nightfall it became apparent that the Colquhoun Clan and there associates where being overpowered by there assailants. They had no other option than to retreat.

In the loch lomond town of Luss the Colquhouns had built a castle. The Bannachra castle was there stronghold point.

His assailants chased them and eventually overpowered them, captured and severed Sir Colquhouns private parts.
